This course aims to develop students’ ability to read residential outdoor spaces as an extension of the interior; analyze user, site, climate, and environmental data; develop human-centered, context-responsive, and sustainable landscape design proposals; and communicate these proposals through appropriate visual and technical representation.
The course covers indoor–outdoor continuity in residential landscapes, outdoor rooms, user needs, site and microclimate analysis, design programming, circulation and functional zoning, form and spatial composition, softscape and hardscape elements, material and plant selection, accessibility, human comfort, lighting, and sustainability. Students undertake an integrated residential landscape design process from analysis and concept development to alternative generation, master planning, and visual communication.
